first_imgShareexpert alertDavid RuthCell: [email protected] the Houston area under a flood watch and the prediction of heavy rain beginning tonight, Nick Fang, a research engineer with Rice University’s Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disasters (SSPEED) Center, is avialable for media interviews to discuss the potiential of flooding in Houston. Fang will also be available during and after the inclement weather predicted tonight and Saturday.The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Greater Houston metropolitian area from 6 p.m. CST Friday through Saturday morning.SSPEED was established in 2007 to improve the lead time and accuracy of severe storm predictions and to deliver real-time storm information to emergency managers. The center includes researchers from Rice, the University of Houston, the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, Louisiana State University, Texas Southern University, Texas A&M University at Galveston and the University of Texas at Brownsville.The media and public can monitor in real time the Rice University and Texas Medical Center Flood Alert System online at http://fas3.flood-alert.org.
